The SPE UMS SC Soft Skills Workshop Series is conducted to boost the soft skills of participants via sharing session with professional panels. The Soft Skills Workshop consists of three important series.

Bossy Leader Vs True Leader
[Theme: Leadership]
This workshop will define the tasks and responsibilities of the leader in a small or large organization. The panel discusses the various styles of leadership shown in real life situations and the essential characteristics of a leader, demonstrating how leader identity may be established in individuals. The panel highlighted the contrast between a bossy leader and a true leader in the workplace; which leader types existed in actual working scenarios; how individuals might cope with a bossy leader if they encounter one; and any other pertinent issues.
2.0 SERIES #2
Creative Thinking Vs Critical Thinking : How to Master it
[Theme: Creative and Critical Skills]
The purpose of this workshop is to educate students about the difference between creative and critical thinking. Additionally, the panel defines critical and creative thinking in professional definitions and discusses its relevance in actual life. Following that, the panel discusses specific examples of how to employ creative and critical thinking in real-world professional circumstances. The panel then aims to provide students how to master these sorts of skills in order to succeed in professional society, as well as the benefits of understanding them.

Stress Management: Rush or Chill?!
[Theme: Enthusiasm and Attitude]
This workshop will help students to tackle real life challenges in the workplace when the busy scenario builds up. Especially, given the shortage of time and workload. This predicament is typical to everyone, even not in professional life settings. Therefore, the panel will discuss some strategies on time management while working under pressure. The panel will highlight the necessity of time management skills and positive attitude as coping up with job pressure. Moreover, the panel reveals ways to remain cool and calm, thus maintaining our mental health to keep it steady.

Tips for Presenting Yourself Better

Be punctual. Arrive early or log online early (even if you have to wait for others)

Be presentable. Dress appropriately for the role. Attire should be consistent with the company culture.

Be prepared. Have the required documents on hand such as resumes, slides, handouts, etc.

Be polite & positive. Politeness goes a long way and having a positive mindset will keep your spirits up.

Practise speaking. Try to speak confidently before any presentations, record and evaluate your performance to consider your delivery. This will familiarise you with the contents of your presentation.

Miss Patricia began the talk by highlighting a few emerging skills as being in high looking someone demand within all industries such as emotional intelligence. One of the topics that has been emphasized by Miss Patricia is how to develop emotional intelligence, which involves reflective journaling, practice active listening and paying attention to our emotions. She then shared tips if we are in a condition to outbursts or overreact, first, we need to pause ourselves before responding, taking a step back and recognizing our emotions. Recognising our emotions can help us keep our actions from jeopardizing the goodwill we have worked so hard to establish.
