On 8 April 2023, Saturday, the SPE UMS SC in collaboration with Kelab Geologi UMS, held o Geo Petroleum Technical Talk - Exploration & Development. Role of Petroleum Geologist. The professional speaker that was invited to discuss this topic is Ser Mohd Asraf bin Khamis, a senior geoscientist. 25 members of the committee from both clubs were involved to ensure the program was a success. In total, there are 149 students that have participated in this talk. This 2-hour program aims to strengthen the bond between Geology students and Oil and Gas Engineering students and expose the students to the partnership between Geology and the Oil and Gas Industry.
The program started at 09.00 am Sir Asraf starts with a quick introduction of himself and moves on to the general introduction of the Oil and Gas Industry. He highlighted that at Petroleum Geologist played a very crucial role in the industry acquiring acreage, exploration, appraisal, development and production. Petroleum geologists integrate data, interpret and propose the best location to find hydrocarbon accumulation. After a very informative sharing session with Sir Asraf, the participants are given the opportunity to ask him directly in the Q&A Session.
To conclude, the program was a great success in exposing the students to the Petroleum Geologist's perspective in the industry. It is hoped that the participant can use these new acquired knowledge in their studies and in their future career planning.
