SPE SOFT SKILL WORKSHOP 3.0: Series 1

On March 22, 2023, the SPE Society of Petroleum Engineering Universiti Malaysia Sabah Student Chapter held The Soft Skill Workshop on the Microsoft Team. Iffah Hazieqah Binti Yunos, a third-year Oil and Gas Engineering student, was the program director with the help of the SPE committee, which consists of 17 members and has worked diligently to ensure the success of this event. This program aims to educate students about the working environment they will encounter which will help them to become more prepared both physically and mentally for the experience and help students improve their communication skills, creativity, adaptability, and collaboration. This event was attended by 50 attendees.

The program kicked off at 10.30 a.m. with Michelle Michio Eric Lius, the emcee, delivering her opening remarks. She was pleased to welcome everyone and give a brief introduction to the invited speaker's background. Then, Mr Qhairyl Izzudin led the recitation of du’a.

After some brief welcome and prayer, Dr. Priscilla, Senior Lecturer at the Centre for the Promotion of Knowledge and Language Learning of Universiti Malaysia Sabah started the talk by showing some youtube video then she remarked that people are being very selective because they want to control and create a desired image. Dr. Priscilla gave us some advice on how to conduct ourselves professionally during her talk. Be on time, presentable, well-dressed, and cheerful. Before giving a presentation, practise speaking confidently, and record and evaluate your performance to consider your delivery.

Before the programme finishes, there is a question and answer session, photo sharing session as well as a kahoot game for the participants. The first winner of the kahoot game is Aaron Johnsen Fred, who receives RM 30, the second winner is Mohamad Firdaus Bin Dulmat, who receives RM20, and the third winner is Dayang Nur Riza Binti Aing, who receives RM 10.

In a nutshell, presenting yourself better is essential in any conversation, whether it's building personal relationships, looking for a job, or interacting with clients or coworkers at work. You don't want people to think of you as someone you're not, but you also want them to think of you as respectable and professional in the workplace. This is where self-promotion comes into play.
