THE 3RD ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING SPE UMS SC


On January 07, 2023, the SPE Society of Petroleum Engineering Universiti Malaysia Sabah Student Chapter held The 3rd Annual General Meeting at Galeri Majlis, Canselori UMS. After two years of the devastating Covid-19 wave hitting Malaysia, this was the first face-to-face AGM to take place. Nur Aqiesh Binti Mohamed Iqbal, a third-year Oil and Gas Engineering student, was the program director with the help of the AC committee, which consists of 18 members, and has worked diligently to ensure the success of this event. meeting aims to provide an update on the club's activities, achievements, and financial standing, introduce the SPE UMS SC committee board for the 2022/2023 session, and organize the club's program planning for the upcoming session. This event was attended by 44 attendees, including lecturers, previous session and new session SPE UMS SC board, and the AGM committee.


The meeting kicked off at 8.40 a.m. with Nur Aqiesh, the program director, delivering her opening remarks. She was pleased to welcome everyone and informed them that the SPE UMS SC club had recently finished its selection for the new committee of the SPE UMS SC. 2022/2023 Session. She continued by saying that everyone in the SPE UMS club is invested in its success since it can't thrive independently. She extends her best wishes to everyone who has worked on this programme.


After some brief welcomes, Madam Hafeza, The Club Advisor of SPE UMS SC, officiated the event with her opening remarks. In her speech, she mentioned that this event would be the third Annual General Meeting for the SPE UMS SC club, and she has high expectations for this event since this is the first AGM held face-to-face. She also extends her gratitude to the previous board for working diligently and competently throughout their leadership. According to Madam Hafeza, this year's election for committee members is based on interviews that differ from last year's.


The President of the SPE UMS SC 2021/2022, Izyan Hamizan, then gives a summary of the events and programmes carried out by the last session of committee members. He described their various activities, such as the SPE Soft Skills Workshop, the Engineering to Business Shift Talk, the SPE UMS SC Family Day, Sabah Petroleum For Youth(SP4YOUTH) 2022, and so forth. Apart from handling programs, they have also been involved in volunteering, such as volunteering for Sabah Oil and Gas Conference(SOGCE) and Exhibition and Malaysia Oil and Gas Services Exhibition and Conference (MOGSEC). In addition, he brought attention to the SP4YOUTH initiative, with the expectation that the SPE UMS SC club will organize the event annually.


Next, Melvin Lai Vunn Ten, Treasurer of SPE UMS SC 2021/2022, presents the financial report of SPE UMS SC 2021/2022. He reported the amount of money earned throughout the year. The cash flow, incremental acquired cash, and cumulative cash are all presented to the audience. Membership and corporate sponsorship are the club's primary funding sources. He added that the money collected from members on an annual basis was used to cover unexpected costs and provide discounts on future events.


The event proceeded with a handover gimmick between the SPE UMS SC 2021/2022 president and the SPE UMS SC 2022/2023 president. Thereby, the 2021/2022 board members have been dismissed officially, and the club's current board will remain in place for the next 2022/2023 session.


The new SPE UMS SC club president, Royce Jim Santos, gave his speech on being the new president of the new session. Activities for the upcoming session's planning were also covered. He discussed the main events that will take place throughout the year, including the Annual General Meeting 23/24, the Workshop Soft Skill Series 3.0, the Technical Talk-Geology Edition, Sabah Petroleum 4 Youth 2.0, SPE Family Day. Industrial Visit, Community Awareness Program, Oil and Gas Minggu Suai Mesra, and the SPE Colour Run. From his statements, Sabah Petroleum 4 Youth 2.0 will be the club's largest event of the year. By reaching out to the youth of Sabah, this initiative strives to provide them with an understanding of the oil and gas industry. During his presentation, he detailed the goals of each event and named all of the directors involved.


In a nutshell, it is hoped that the newly elected committee members will take lessons from the previous session's programme. It will serve as a guideline for the chib's new committee as they take over the roles and responsibilities. Furthermore, this programme has successfully achieved its objective as it gives students a platform to offer suggestions regarding how the organization might improve. All of the club's activities will be more likely to meet with success because of these benefits.
